- Ensure that the progress of the work is in accordance with the work planned and the timetable established for it;
- Ensure the contribution of partners to the project is adequate and collaborative, and to identify and solve problems when they may arise;
- Ensure that the administrative work is done on time and meets the requirements of the contract;
- Ensure that the project resources are well administered and that all project partners have their appropriate funding on time to conduct their work
WP2 Filling the Gap: Potential use of biobased gears and minimisation of plastic use in aquaculture
Lead Partner: ITSASKORDA
Contact Person: Manuel González Corbacho (maolo@itsaskorda.es)
This Work Package estimates the amount of biobased and oil-based ropes used in offshore aquaculture will be estimated (using previous projects results- LIFE LEMA and BLUENET), the future use of biobased plastic ropes in aquaculture and their market potential will be assessed, as well as the potential minimisation of plastic impact on marine environment due to their use of biobased ropes.
The objective of this WP is to FILL THE GAP of potential use of biobased gears and minimisation of plastics used in aquaculture. The subobjectives to achieve this are:
- To estimate the amount of biobased and oil-based plastic ropes used in offshore aquaculture;
- To assess the future use of biobased plastic ropes in aquaculture and their market potential;
- To assess the potential minimisation of plastic impact on marine environments due to the use of biobased ropes
WP3 Design and development of biobased rope prototypes
Lead Partner: GAIKER
Contact Person: María José Suárez (suarez@gaiker.es)
In this Work Package the technical characteristics of the most cost-efficient aquaculture ropes for mussel and algae farming will be assessed, bio-based materials with potential for manufacturing will be selected and characterised, bio-compounds with potential to produce textile yarns will be designed and developed at lab scale, and finally aquaculture prototypes for mussel and algae aquaculture (Expected TRL 4) will be manufactured at pre-industrial scale.
The objective of this WP is to design and develop biobased rope prototypes with a TRL 4. The subobjectives are:
- To assess the technical characteristics of the most cost-efficient aquaculture ropes for mussel and algae farming;
- To select and characterise biobased materials with the potential materials with potential for manufacturing aquaculture ropes;
- To design and develop at lab scale the bio-compounds with potential to produce textile yarns;
- To manufacture at pre-industrial scale aquaculture prototypes for mussel and algae aquaculture (expected TRL 4)
WP4 Field demonstration tests for validation of prototype ropes at sea
Lead Partner: AZTI
Contact Person: Leire Arantzamendi (larantzamendi@azti.es)
This Work Package will design three aquaculture tests, each conducted in experimental sites with different energy and environmental conditions, where at least two production cycles with biobased ropes under best practice for eco-friendly aquaculture will be set up, performed and monitored to validate the prototypes biobased ropes to a TRL 5-7 by sea tests demonstrations.
The objective of this WP is to conduct field demonstration tests for validation of prototype ropes at sea. The subobjectives are:
- To design three aquaculture tests in experimental sites;
- To set up, perform and monitor at least two production cycles with biobased ropes under best practices for eco-friendly aquaculture;
- To validate by sea test demonstrations the prototype biobased ropes to get a TRL 5-7
WP5 Sustainability Assessment
Lead Partner: GAIKER
Contact Person: Ainara Pocheville (pocheville@gaiker.es)
The technical sustainability of biobased prototype ropes for mussel and algae culture will be evaluated, as well as the economic sustainability of biobased prototypes ropes for mussel and alage culture (in terms of cost efficiency), and the environmental sustainability of biobased prototypes for mussel and algae culture including the end of life behaviour by biodegradability in the sea and in composting conditions.
The objective of this WP is to conduct sustainability assessment of the biobased ropes, in technical, economic and environmental terms. The subobjectives are:
- To evaluate the technical sustainability of biobased prototype ropes for mussel and algae culture;
- To evaluate the economic sustainability of biobased prototype ropes for mussel and algae culture;
- To evaluate the environmental sustainability of biobased prototype ropes for mussel and algae culture including the end of life behaviour by biodegradability in sea and in composting conditions
WP6 Measures for the transferability of project activities and results
Lead Partner: ITSASKORDA
Contact Person: Manuel González Corbacho (maolo@itsaskorda.es)
A Blue Lab working on BIOGEARS for aquaculture will be created, local strategies for the generation of eco-friendly aquaculture and how to scale up to other European regions will be defined new biobased value chains from eco-friendly aquaculture under blue economy strategies (local and EU scale) will be defined.
The objective of this WP is to create and develop measures for the transferability of project activities and results. The subobjectives are:
- To create a Blue Lab working on BIOGEARS for aquaculture;
- To define local strategies for the generation of eco-friendly aquaculture and how to scale up to other European regions;
